Artist Statement
Painting is my visual journal--an exploration of emotions and ideas. Time falls away and my subconscious takes over.
In my large paintings I use sweeping gestures and broad brushstrokes to apply layers of paint and often wash away or scrape areas of the canvas. Textures and veils of color reflect the movement of my mind as the artwork evolves.
My smaller paintings are more contemplative. Small strokes of paint and ink result in translucent washes; subtle shapes emerge often with bold graphite accents. The size of these paintings invites the viewer to step in towards the paintings and interpret the images and emotive qualities in their own way.
